BF2142 is coming out soon. It amazing how much it almost looks like a quake wars wannabe. It looks like the same time period. The soldiers look similar.
I doubt I will get it but it looks interesting. I liked BF Vietnam somewhat because of the jungle terrain. I played the original BF but the game was way out of balance to me because of the vehicles.

We all hope the ET:QW game play will not be out of whack because of the vehicles in the game.

Download is is about 1.1gb.

IMO, the new gametype is a bit better than the standard BF2 game, but otherwise it is pretty much the same.

My system can hardly handle the minimum system requirements

I'm not even close to the recommended, 3.0 GHz, 256MB video card, etc...++++++++

I'll have to consider a new machine to even think about trying quake wars, thank goodness Christmas is just around the corner

yep, my system as far as CPU is ok but not the recommended 3Ghz. I'm not sure if it will run on my Geforce 4ti or not.

Looks like I may have to plan on some upgrades at least for next year.

Unlikely, bf2 didn't run at all on gf4 cards.

I saw this out on the net. It says that when you get your BF2142 it includes paperwork agreement about EA installing some spyware thing on your PC when you install the game

This is what the poster said:

"The slip of paper says, essentially, that 2142 includes monitoring software which runs while your computer is online, and records "anonymous" information like your IP address, surfing habits (probably via cookie scans), and other "computing habits" in order to report this information back to ad companies and ad servers, which generates in-game ads.

Now, I can live with certain in-game ads (though apparently there will be Dodge truck and Neon ads in the bleak, futuristic world of 2142), but including a lengthy description - outside of even the Eula - seems to indicate even EA knows that this is some shady borderline spyware junk. I don't support it and won't be buying 2142 (for a host of other reasons, too)."

FWIW, Dice says that it is only active when you are playing the game, not something that monitors all your web browsing.

If their description is accurate and it's not really any different than a site with banner ads.

That said, why would you pay full retail for a game with ads in it :?

i've read about the spyware/adverts too. i'm aganst it, but i can see why EA is for it. an example someone gave was amazon's cookie spy shit. i don't like that either (<cookie killer), but it seems to work for a lot of people. i try to block browser ads too, but most people don't and some people prolly like them.

reyal made a good point about this technology being similar to browser ads. i think teh win would be if they advertised other games.

it's actually pretty cool technology. with the right hack servers could host their own ads/pics (now that i think about it, that might not be such a good idea )
