A quake3 mod, but can be played as standalone with free open source Q3 engine.

This mod is quite good and has been around a long time. With the new release, it is also effectively a free standalone game like ET. There was actually an ET version planned for a while, but with the Q3 engine being free, they stuck with that.

The simplest way to describe it is CS with Q3ish movement, but that doesn't really do it justice.

Looking it over, this stand alone doesn't support PB, but rather another anti-cheat.

So what, now you have 2 communities playing basically the same game?

OK loaded it up and played it. Pretty cool, but OMG, for the primary gun, you have like 12 selections and can change on the fly.

Don't even have a clue which gun has the best accuracy, other than the Browning, but it only has like a 3 bullit clip.

Game play very much like CS.

The movement is quite different. You can strafe jump like Q3 (while you have sprint), crouch slide like Q4, and walljump.

You can also ditch your secondary (usually SMG/shotgun) for other equipment, like the laser (which gives you better accuracy) or silencer.

The NVG are also... interesting.
